Wow, thanks for the extensive reply moonwatcher!  I missed it this last year, logged into the Baloran forum today for the first time since you responded, and wow it has been EXACTLY one year to the day!  Now I am inspired to trouble shoot my problem some more and see if I can get it working.  Thanks for the extensive description of your workflow and for confirming that my assumed settings were correct.

Simplifying my question, I would be curious to understand how to properly do two things:

1) Set up a layer that lets me play the river keyboard with an active arp, and send that MIDI out to the Cirklon to capture the arpeggiated notes

I would assume that I need to set up two layers:
Layer 1: Source: River | Dest: MIDI | Arp ON
Layer 2: Source MIDI | Dest: River
This should allow me to play my river, get arppegiated notes, send them to Cirklon, record them and then play them back from Cirklon into the River?

2) Set up a layer that lets me play the river keyboard with an active arp, and send that MIDI out to the Cirklon to capture the sustained chords, without the arpeggiated notes

I would assume that I need to set up two layers:
Layer 1: Source: River | Dest: MIDI |
Layer 2: Source MIDI | Dest: River | ARP ON
This should allow me to play my river, records the sustained chords without arppegiated notes inCirklon, play them back from Cirklon into the River where they are arpeggiated?

Unfortunately, neither of these methods is working for me so I'm afraid my assumptions are incorrect :)

Any help here understanding how to accomplish above using physical MIDI I/O (not USB) would be much appreciated.

Discussion (English preferably) / Attemping to use the river in new ways
« on: January 25, 2022, 05:59:30 AM »
For a while now, I've been using the river exclusively with my Cirklon, connected by hardware MIDI ports.  I have completely avoided using the USB Midi with a DAW.  Generally, I have two layers set up in Riverkey:

Layer 1 - Source: RIVER Dest: MIDI
Layer 2 - Source: MIDI Dest: River

This allows me to sequence the river from the Cirklon which is generally what I want to do.

Today, I made a multi on the River that has three channels of river sounds on three layers:

Channel 1 with 6 Voices active:
Layer 1 - Source: River Dest: River

Channel 2 with 1 voice active:
Layer 2: Source: River Dest: River (Arp = ON)

Channel 3 with 1 voice active
Layer 3: Source: River Dest: River (Arp ON)

This multi sounds really nice when I play it on the keyboard, I have some chords in layer 1, with a bass arp and lead arp in layer 2 and 3.

My problem is that I cannot figure out how to capture my performance in the Cirklon...

I tried to add a fourth layer, with Source: River Dest: MIDI and that didn't work.  I tried the different MODES (All, Selected, MIDI) and that didn't help.  I'm a little confused what is wrong here?

I am going to plug the River into my DAW using USB and see if I have better luck, it looks like the DUMP USB function might be helpful here?

It would be cool if we could get an updated magnetic strip for the river key, maybe as a group order or something.

I‘m interested in an iPad support in white, and the EEPROM.

I’ve been running the setup I described above successfully, except that I can’t get the River to respond to my incoming MIDI clock (coming in via the MIDI ports).  I’ve been working around this by just manually setting the tempo and then fixing the slight timing offsets in the DAW later, but I would like to figure out how to just always slave the River to the MIDI clock coming from my Cirklon.  Anyone have this working?

I'm having an issue since updating to 2.0.  One of my saved multis will go out of tune often, and usually when I use the quicktune it fixes it.  But today every time I run quick tune I get a different version that is out of tune.  So quick tune isn't performing consistently on this multi it seems. I tried running a tune all as well with the same issue.

Good call, I haven't actually used this.  I guess I could use it to always save the multi for a song, and reserve Bank 01 Patch 01 to always load the "current" multi for a given track?

Nice, Laurent what a great surprise!  I will test this when I get some time.

I would be very interested in this!

Sorry I forgot to respond here.  The issue was caused by an incompatibility with an early firmware version and Cirklon.  It's been working nicely in newer firmware versions.

Thanks, I actually knew that lol. Forgot that the updated downloads the firmware :)

Laurent, where are the new firmware’s posted?

I noticed that when this happens, I use the modulation wheel and the River's panel display will suddenly show "Local Control = OFF" or "Local Control = Auto" so it seems like the modulation wheel is triggering a change in the Local control setting?  Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong here?

I am having issues on some multi patches I have programmed, where if I use the modulation wheel the patch goes silent and won't play back anymore.  Initially when I received my River I was running it standalone (i.e. not connected to my cirklon for sequencing) and I was not having this issue.  Ever since I set up the river with two layers to send MIDI from the keyboard into the cirklon, and to respond to incoming MIDI from the Cirklon I have this issue with the modulation wheel.  But only on certain patches.  I think it's a bug, but could be user error if I have some setting wrong.  Anyone else having this issue?
