MATRIX Mode

In a week, I could show you in Nantes, during SynthFest 2026, a new feature of The 3B.
The development is done, as well as the manual update. Saying there are no bugs or room for optimization would be very presumptuous, but I wasn't sure I'd finish in time. The firmware, the application update and the manual should be available quickly on the forum, before SynthFest 😉

The RANGE NOTE, MICROTONAL and MULTI SEQ modes offer a new gesture. Imagine a grid of 1 to 4 rows and 1 to 2 columns above your sensor, somewhat like the heads-up display of a cockpit or a modern vehicle. It's a virtual keyboard: press, release.
When the hand enters the sensor's visibility cone and "touches" a cell, the associated note or sequence is played. The note is released or the sequence stopped when your hand leaves the sensor's visibility cone. As long as your hand remains within this cone, the X, Y and Z movements are interpreted as modulation sources. Les modes RANGE NOTE, MICROTONAL et MULTI SEQ proposent un nouveau geste. Imaginez un tableau de 1 à 4 lignes et de 1 à 2 colonnes au-dessus de votre capteur, un peu comme l'affichage tête haute d'un cockpit ou d'un véhicule moderne. C'est un clavier virtuel : appuyez, relâchez.
Quand la main entre dans le cône de visibilité du capteur et « touche » une case, la note associée ou la séquence associée est jouée. La note est relâchée ou la séquence arrêtée lorsque votre main quitte le cône de visibilité du capteur. Tant que votre main reste dans ce cône, les mouvements X, Y et Z sont interprétés comme des sources de modulation. Ainsi, le mouvement Z devient une source de modulation pleinement accessible alors que dans les modes non matriciels, il changeait la note.
Bien sûr, vous pouvez choisir le mode MATRICIEL pour chacun des capteurs, simultanément si nécessaire.

En plus de favoriser la musculation du coude et de l'avant bras, cette fonctionnalité augmente bigrement le potentiel de la bête !!! 😁😉

Cette version corrige aussi quelques bugs et augmente de façon significative la qualité des informations X et Y de chaque capteur.

No, the firmware will not change the acquisition speed of the X, Y, Z coordinates. The sensors used do not allow for better performance. I regularly monitor STMicroelectronics information to see if a new available generation improves this point.
