For validation,

  • This version improves the name editor in the SAVE function. You can now move the cursor, insert characters etc....
  • It adds a "SHOW ALERT" system parameter. Set to "ON", as soon as a sound is modified, the INIT, PANEL, RAND and LOAD functions generate a warning. In the SAVE function, a warning confirms the replacement of an existing file.
  • Effects modulation via card 1 has been improved.
  • A nice bug on the VCF4 when activating the F envelope has been corrected.
  • Noise color is better managed in A2D, no longer leaving a noise even when the NOISE slider is set to 0.
  • Cursor blocking in A2D has been corrected.

Ran an update this morning:

Findings
++ Cursor & insert addition to naming, very elegant solution
++ Files operation remembering its state, great for file management in The Pool
++ Warning confirmations on Init, Panel, Random are great

* Load warning confirmation position could use tweaking (thoughts below)

High impact user experience tweaks, thank you!

*A thought on the load warning confirmation. It's subtle but I think worth pursuing:

In the instance of pressing the Init, Panel, and Random buttons, the warning confirmation generates precisely before the sound erasing function occur.

The Load button is different in that on its first pressing it displays a menu to choose a new sound and the sound erasing function is deferred until the user presses the physical load button again in the load menu or the digital load button on the screen.  What if the user is only going to the load screen to change a patch name or delete a patch?  If they confirm the warning here when they aren't loading a sound they could still put a finger on the touch screen, change the patch when they didn't mean to, and lose their work.

The load function's warning displaying after the "load preset" function is called would make the load warning experience closer to the init, panel, and random warning displays and cover these other legitimate reasons for going into the load menu.

Conclusion

I have a few other thoughts beyond the topic of the purpose of validation I'll share in another thread. Thanks for your hard work.

Baloran

Ok, thank you for this accurate reporting. For the Load, I see what you mean about the OK, but I'm half convinced. I'll have to think again ;)

Hello, I run into a problem ...

Managed to update the Panel to 1.63 fine and then the FX needed to try a few times

and then first voice seemed impossible to update and then the Uploader seemed empty every time I tried or restarted the application. Checked the version of the voice card and now says 0.00 and all other voices display 1.60. What do you think?

Baloran

To update the cards on MAC, there may be another solution.

If anyone feels brave enough to test ;)

Thanks, no luck, card 1 seems bricked up, it displays 0.00, and doesn't play and still the software shows no communication, it was fine before, I am wondering if the Pool USB is working...
Is it possible to let me know what to do, the previous update went perfect. Also is there a way to reorder the cards so no 1 goes to no 4?

Baloran

Before reorganizing anything, I'd like to be able to diagnose the instrument. A priori, the USB link is completely inconsistent, since no voice card has been able to switch to 1.63 and remain in 1.60. The 0.0 card seems to be an upgrade that went wrong.

I'd like to know if other MAC users are experiencing similar problems when upgrading.

Chris, you'd really have to do a test from a WIndows PC (a friend, at work etc...) because as the link seems inconsistent, whatever the position of the dipswitches on the back of The RIver, I'm convinced that it's the whole environment that's not working properly. This is the only solution that allows me to establish a definite diagnosis and to know whether to return the instrument or not.

Hello Laurent,
I'll try to find a PC but in 3 days I am away for 2 months in Berlin so time is tight.
I ve tried again today and TyCommander seems completely unresponsive no matter the dip switching.
Definitely something changed because I used to have solid communication.

I kept trying with my MacBook i9 and all of a sudden I got communication and managed to update the 3 voice cards (2,3 and 4) to 1.63
but for voice card 1 Tycommander says missing and then goes blank. For all other dip settings Tycommander says running.

My issue got resolved with Laurent's suggestion to internally force the CPU to programming mode by pressing a white switch on top of the board.
