Coming in early 2026, the psychedelic The 3F 

Hi,

The level of the voice cards is set with TR502, so don't confuse it with its neighbors. An RMS measurement of the output level could be sufficient to make this adjustment and make it homogeneous for all voices.

In practice, for the few The River units that have undergone maintenance, I have found that the soldering causes more problems than the components. In practice, I have "fixed" many boards by simply re-soldering the through-hole components, especially the multi-turn adjustable ones. I have also had a few SMD IC solder joints made by assemblers that have not stood the test of time. If you open up your The River, take the opportunity to check the voltages. A voltage drift can prevent the instrument from autotuning properly.

2. Installation de l'application The 3B Editor

Décompressez l'archive ZIP dans un dossier de votre choix. Elle contient :

La version fournie contient également des séquences de Cutting Edge, que je remercie au passage.

3. Première utilisation
Une fois le firmware mis à jour, The 3B allumé et connecté en USB :

• Lancez l'application.
• Cliquez sur le bouton MIDI....
• Sélectionnez Baloran The 3B en MIDI IN et MIDI OUT.
• Fermez et relancez l'application.

L'éditeur devrait maintenant être synchronisé avec votre 3B.
Tous les contrôles reflèteront son état actuel.

Si vous faites des changements directement sur le 3B, cliquez sur READ THE 3B pour les récupérer dans l'éditeur.

4. Astuces
Pour désactiver un pas du séquenceur, tirez-le vers le bas jusqu'à -25. L'affichage du séquenceur possède un zoom automatique : Si toutes les notes sont entre -12 et +12, l'affichage est agrandi. Si une note dépasse cette plage, l'échelle passe automatiquement de -24 à +24.

To turn a sequencer step OFF, drag it down to -25. The sequencer display features auto zoom: If all notes are between -12 and +12, the view is zoomed in. If any note goes beyond that range, the scale adapts to -24 and  +24.

For the moment, I've abandoned this idea in its proposed form, as it's really complex.

It might be possible to have a tempo screen on which you can draw the duration of the step, similar to the tempo on sequencers.   The eighth button on the left would become tempo variation, and you would draw a +- on the screen relative to the standard. I think seven parameters for the motion sequencer are sufficient.

   I'm completely blown away! It's absolutely incredible. I mentioned that The Pool had the ability to explore a variety of musical territories, but now I'm more than satisfied. I took the liberty of posting your words and SoundCloud link on my Facebook page.

La gestion du Gate In a encore été améliorée. En mode Capteur Off, The 3B devient un expandeur CV Gate

The 3B gère les signaux CLOCK et REALTIME reçus sur la prise USB. Vous pouvez donc synchroniser votre The 3B avec votre DAW ou un équipement qui génère des signaux horloges et messages REALTIME (start, stop, continue).

The handling of the Gate In has been further improved. When the Sensor mode is Off, The 3B can now act as a CV/Gate expander

The 3B now supports CLOCK and REALTIME signals received via the USB port. You can therefore sync your The 3B with your DAW or with any device that generates clock signals and REALTIME messages (start, stop, continue).

Ok, bug observé et la correction sera apportée rapidement

EDIT : L'éditeur est plus intelligent que The 3B
Pour les formes d'ondes inférieures à Karplus, il met à OFF Wave 2 car dans ce cas, ce paramètre n'est pas utilisé.
Je devrais plutôt corriger The 3B pour qu'il fonctionne comme l'Editeur

Dans l'écran SAVE, il n'est plus nécessaire d'utiliser Shift + SAVE pour sauvegarder une configuration. Un simple appui sur le bouton LOAD, sans Shift, suffit désormais.

La gestion du Gate In a été largement améliorée.
Lorsque le signal Gate In disparaît, le séquenceur repasse automatiquement sur l'horloge interne après trois secondes.
Dès qu'un signal Gate est détecté, le séquenceur bascule immédiatement sur l'horloge externe.

Un nouveau paramètre a été ajouté à la page 2 du menu SYSTEM : "G.IN AUTOSTART"

La présence ou l'absence d'un Gate In n'a aucune influence sur l'état des séquenceurs.
SEQ 1
Lorsque qu'un signal Gate In apparaît, le séquenceur 1 démarre automatiquement s'il était arrêté.
Si le Gate In disparaît pendant plus de trois secondes, le séquenceur 1 s'arrête.
SEQ 2
Même comportement que SEQ 1, mais appliqué au séquenceur 2.
BOTH
Les séquenceurs 1 et 2 sont gérés simultanément selon le même principe.

Modes d'horloge et divisions
En mode 24 PPQN ou 48 PPQN, le paramètre Division des séquenceurs est actif et permet de choisir la subdivision du tempo.
En mode 1 PPQN, toutes les divisions sont fixées à 1/4.

In the SAVE screen, it is no longer necessary to use Shift + SAVE to store a configuration.
Simply pressing the LOAD button, without Shift, is now enough.

Gate In handling has been significantly improved.
When the Gate In signal disappears, the sequencer automatically switches back to the internal clock after three seconds.
As soon as a Gate signal is detected, the sequencer instantly switches to the external clock.

A new parameter has been added to page 2 of the SYSTEM menu: "G.IN AUTOSTART"
NONE
The presence or absence of a Gate In signal has no effect on the sequencers' state.
SEQ 1
When a Gate In signal is detected, Sequencer 1 starts automatically if it was stopped.
If the Gate In signal disappears for more than three seconds, Sequencer 1 stops.
SEQ 2
Same behavior as SEQ 1, but applied to Sequencer 2.
BOTH
Both Sequencer 1 and Sequencer 2 are controlled simultaneously using the same logic.

Clock modes and divisions
In 24 PPQN or 48 PPQN modes, the Division parameter for the sequencers is active, allowing you to set the tempo subdivision.
In 1 PPQN mode, all divisions are fixed to 1/4.

Une version pour Linux est-elle envisageable ? 

Si l'un de vous sait faire, je lui confie les sources JUCE, le framework que j'utilise, peut générer du linux, mais il faut un linux etc ..

Je n'avais pas prévu d'éditeur logiciel pour The 3B. J'imaginais que 90% des exemplaires seraient dans un Eurorack et qu'une valise Eurorack n'était pas faite pour discuter avec un ordi...
Sauf que, finalement, la version BOX domine plus que largement  🙃 Comme l'ergonomie de The 3B est un peu complexe avec son petit écran, voilà le spacieux camarade logiciel qui dialoguera avec le butineur. Il sera disponible sur MAC et PC dans un premier temps comme application standalone, peut être VST plus tard si cela a du sens.
 Il faut encore patienter un peu mais le projet avance bien.

I hadn't originally planned a software editor for The 3B. I imagined that 90% of the units would end up in Eurorack systems, and a Eurorack case isn't exactly made to chat with a computer...

But as it turns out, the BOX version is clearly dominating 🙃
And since The 3B's ergonomics can be a bit tricky with its small screen, here comes its spacious software companion, ready to talk to the explorer.

It will first be available as a standalone app for Mac and PC, and maybe later as a VST if that makes sense.
Still a bit of patience needed but the project is moving along nicely.
